Lebanon: meeting between COPEAM Secretary General and the Information Minister

(ANSAmed) - BEIRUT, May 17 - The development of Lebanon's participation in the activities of the Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators (COPEAM) was the object of a meeting in Beirut between the Secretary General of the Association, Pier Luigi Malesani, and the Information Minister, Walid Daouk.

"Lebanon is very important for us, especially considering the difficult period this country is facing" due to the crisis in Syria, Malesani told ANSA. He also visited the studios of the public television Télé Liban, the first television channel founded, in 1959, in the Middle East.

Malesani and Daouk also debated the possibility for Radio Liban to join COPEAM, of which the state television is a member together with others public service broadcasters from 26 countries, including Rai, and professional associations, intergovernmental institutions, international organizations and non-governmental associations, cultural and research institutes, independent producers and universities. COPEAM, which will hold its next annual Conference in Tunis in 2014, has acted for 20 years as a permanent forum for dialogue and cooperation through co-productions, training, exchange of news, seminars and cultural events.

Among the proposals presented by the Secretary General to the Information Minister in Beirut, Lebanon's participation in a TV co-production in which each member will produce a documentary on a champion athlete in his country. (ANSAmed).
