Balkans’ Memory (2012-2014): assessment and results

The closing conference of the Balkans’ Memory project was held in Sarajevo on 19 November 2014. It celebrated three years of training and know-how and good practices’ exchange aimed at supporting policies for the preservation, the digitisation and the promotion of the audiovisual heritage in the Balkans’ region. On that occasion, an assessment on the activities carried out within the project was presented, based on three main areas: training and networking, research and sharing of resources and means, fundraising and funding opportunities.

Along the project implementation, important results were achieved, contributing to define a concrete overview of the sector and the relevant needs at the regional level.


Following the organization of 5 seminars, a regional network of archives’ professionals was created, together with a think tank charged of elaborating a regional training plan for the next years.
The two regional conferences organised in the framework of this action and involving the Ministers of Culture of the target countries represented important occasions of awareness-raising among the main stakeholders, namely on the need to invest in digitization and to identify financial opportunities to this aim.
The outputs of this initiative were collected in a guide of good practices on audiovisual heritage preservation and promotion, gathering contributions from the various seminars and available in English, Croatian and Albanian.
