TRT Español launched during Broadcasting Summit with Spanish Speaking Countries

Türkiye’s public broadcaster TRT introduced its new digital news platform during the TRT – Spanish Speaking Countries 1st Broadcasting Summit

 TRT – Spanish Speaking Countries 1st Broadcasting Summit and Launch Ceremony of TRT Español platform took place in Istanbul on 25-26 April 2024.

Hosted by Turkish Radio Television Corporation (TRT), the event had the theme Mapping Broadcasting Strategies for Türkiye and Spanish Speaking Countries in the Digital Age”. It saw a wide participation from prominent Latin American ambassadors, executives and journalists from 18 Spanish speaking countries including Spain, Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Venezuela, Guatemala, Ecuador, Bolivia as well as Latin American and Spanish students studying in Türkiye.

Underlining that TRT has made significant advancements in the realm of international broadcasting and its recently launched channels have quickly amassed millions of followers,Türkiye’s Head of Communications Prof. Fahrettin Altun noted that TRT’s Spanish platform will contribute to efforts to promote diversity and multiculturalism in international broadcasting.  TRT Director General Prof. Mehmet Zahid Sobacı marked that the newly launched platform aims to bring the political, economic, social and cultural issues of Spanish-speaking countries to the attention of the masses, through the lenses of TRT’s human-centered broadcasting approach

Under the slogan 'donde las personas importan' or 'The Place Where People Matter', TRT Español aims to bring compelling stories from Türkiye, Latin America, Spain, and across the globe.

The Summit included panel sessions on a wide array of topics ranging from enriching mutual understanding through series and Türkiye – Spanish speaking countries relations in the mirror of public service media to the changing face of global news-flows.

On the margins of the event, also an international journalism workshop was held on 25 April, where participants tackled key issues such as the reality of impartial journalism, media’s role in international relations, perceptions and stereotypes, stories that are not covered, leveraging storytelling in digital age etc.
