On 24 May 2014, upon Algerian Radio (ENRS) initiative, COPEAM Radio Commission is organizing the second edition of The Binmen of the Med. This Euro-Mediterranean media and ecological event aims at mobilizing, through a radio coverage, volunteers from 4 countries (Croatia, Tunisia, France and Algeria) of the region to participate in a simultaneous cleaning operation of their coasts.
With the support of environmental associations, the Croatian public radio (HRT), the Tunisian radio (RTCI), France Bleu RCFM (Corsica) and the Algerian radio (ENRS) set up an action plan to launch a call for volunteers and to propose a special programming to raise awareness on ecological issues.
Further to the cleaning operation, the engagement of COPEAM radio members will enable to inform the audiences about environmental stakes in the Mediterranean area, to educate by creating new eco-citizen behaviors, but also to entertain and engage by comparing, through duplex, the cleaning operation results of the different participating radios.
Thus, from the coast of Algeria to the Croatian beaches in Split, from Corsica to the Tunisian coast, a large area of the Mediterranean basin will be involved in this innovative initiative of mobilization and awareness at a regional level.
