A COPEAM/EIB transnational newsroom for the coverage of the COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh

Putting the issue of climate change at the heart of a correct media discourse: this is the objective of COPEAM’s initiative which, with the support of the European Investment Bank, will accompany the work of 11 journalists from Africa, Middle East and the Balkans during the COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh.

The 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP27, is currently taking place in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt (November 6-18). This edition is of crucial importance in the face of a global context marked by a seriesof extreme climatic events and energy shocks. COPEAM (Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators), with the support of the European Investment Bank (EIB), is present during the central days of the event with a group of radio, TV and press journalists involved in a transnational newsroom devoted to the conference coverage. The 11 participants - from Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Montenegro, Romania, Kenya and Uganda - were selected among the best journalists who attended the training activities that COPEAM, thanks again to the support of the EIB, has been organizing for years around the environmental challenges, including the international e-learning program "Reporting climate change", developed in collaboration with the telematic university Uninettuno.
Supported by a senior environmental expert, the 11 reporters will carry out interviews, reports and in-depth news items on the topics of the COP27, highlighting the main strategies adopted by the international community to achieve the objectives of the 2015 Paris Agreement, as well as the political and economic issues which, even today, are holding back a real change of direction
