2016 World Press Freedom Day

Casablanca, 3 May 2016

On 2 and 3 May,  the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) organized in Casablanca - in partnership with UNESCO and in the framework of the EU project MedMedia - a regional conference for the 2016 World Press Freedom Day celebration, with the participation of COPEAM along with Moroccan and international organizations.

The Secretary General, Mr. Claudio Cappon, delivered a speech during the opening session focused on the need to reconsider the relationship between Media and citizenship and on the risks related to misleading information that the wide range of platforms and social networks available today contribute to fuel up. As for, particularly, the Arab world, the active participation of civil society in the public debate, pluralism and transparency of the Media were mentioned as fundamental steps for the raise and the affirmation of freedom of expression in the South-Mediterranean region.
