SouthMed-Wia: evaluation results of the1st call for proposals

The EU funded project SouthMed-Wia has just announced the winning projects submitted in the framework of its 1st call proposals.

Among the 69 applications received within the deadline, the evaluation committee has awarded the following 4 projects:

  • Rewriting the Story about violence against women, coordinated by HarassMap, Egypt
  • Femmes: Paroles et Cinéma, coordinated by Cinémathèque de Tanger, Morocco
  • Breaking taboos and changing the image of women in audiovisual sector in the Arab Region, coordinated by Muntada - The Arab Forum for Education, Sexuality and Reproductive Health, Palestine
  • One Woman Show, coordinated by Wasabi, Tunisia

They will run between October 2017 and February 2019, and will aim at improving the media professionals’ sensitivity related to gender equality, as well as the use of audiovisual products to promote an inclusive culture against gender discrimination; training both professionals and students on sexual rights and women’s bodily integrity in the audiovisual sector; raising public awareness about cinema made by women and encouraging women’s commitment in their profession; supporting the visibility of up-and-coming women leaders in the audiovisual sector as role models for young people, especially girls, to foster their future professional interest in this domain.

The beneficiaries of the 4 sub-granted projects will take part, from 6 to 9 November, in the first field activity to be organised in Tunis in the framework of the Carthage Film Festival.

SouthMed-WiA is designed to promote and support gender equality in the audiovisual sector, contributing to sustainable development and cultural diversity, in seven Southern Mediterranean countries: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia.
